BALLET
Pre-Ballet ( We add a little Tap to this class ) Ages: 2 1/2 - 4 ( 1 HR one class a week ) Pre Ballet / Tap is a introduction to music appreciation and basic steps of both ballet & tap
Ballet I Ages: 5 - 7 ( 1 HR one class a week ) Ballet I begins to teach the children French terminology, basic barre & center work
Ballet II Ages: 8 - 10 ( 1.5 HR one or two classes a week ) Ballet II begins the study of academic classical ballet technique both barre & center exercises. Students seriously begin to strengthen their feet, thighs, and back, gaining aplomb or balance, the turning of the legs en dehors (outward) from the hip joints, and the freeing and lightening of the limbs so that they will move quickly and lightly.
Ballet III Ages: 10 - 16 ( 1.5 HR two - three classes a week ) Ballet III continues the study of academic classical ballet technique and begins the study of pre pointe*.
Ballet IV Ages: 13 - 17 ( 1 - 2 HRS four to five classes a week ) Ballet IV classes are for the students seriously studying to become professional ballet dancers. These students have technique, pointe and variation classes. NOTE: This class is also for the older advance dancer and teachers with professional classical backgrounds.
Character Ages: 13 & up Character Dance, literally Danse De Caractere is a dance founded on folk or national dances, but is based on the technique of classical ballet. The student must have a strong background of ballet.
Pre Pointe & Pointe Classes Dancing on pointe is not easy to learn and even more difficult to master. But it is essential for the young ballet dancer. Most classical ballet work requires some dancing on pointe. Children have “green bones” which can be compared to the soft and malleable young willow tree. Bones in the feet, legs and back can be injured by premature pointe work.
Pre Pointe* Class Ages: 10 & up who attend 3 technique classes a week and have the technical proficiency will be able to practice pre-pointe, 15 - 20 minutes at the end of their technique classes
Beginning Pointe Class Ages: 13 & up who attend 3 or more classes a week and have the technical proficiency. This class consists of 45 - 60 minutes at the barre only.
Pointe / Variation Class Ages: 13 & up who are in Ballet IV who attend 4 or more classes a week and have the technical proficiency.
Adult Ballet Exercise Ages 18 & up ( 1 HR per week ) Adult Ballet Exercise begins the study of academic ballet technique at the barre & a few center movements. This class is also for the adult who has had dance lessons and is wanting to retrain their bodies |
